Joanna Lumley says British children have slack morals

Joanna Lumley has accused British parents of bringing up their children with “slack” morals.

The 64-year-old actress said the younger generation should be given more responsibility. In an interview with the Radio Times, she said that when she was at school she can only recall one crime during her whole time, and that was when a fountain pen went missing. She added that stealing just didn’t happen. She said that she was taught not to behave badly, steal or shoplift and she wasn’t even allowed to drop litter.

Lumley, continued that moral codes for children are vey slack these days and nowadays children are finding it amusing to steal or shoplift. She added that parents smile as they download work from the internet which they present lazily as theirs or allow them to take in sick notes and bunk off school.

The former Absolutely Fabulous actress, who went to a boarding school, recalled that small children would take on big responsibilities in different countries around the world. Whilst making a series around the world she recalled that in Ethiopia, you might see a seven-year-old taking 15 goats into the fields for the day and eating just a chapatti.

The grandmother-of-two said that we seemed afraid to give our children responsibilities, and continued that we are leading children into a false paradise.
