A survey carried out by internet travel provider Kayak has revealed there are bargains galore for the summer of 2017. Fares for flights to short-haul European destinations have dropped dramatically and are up to 43 per cent cheaper than last year.
The biggest drop is for the heritage Adriatic seaside town of Pula in Croatia, but flights to other popular beach destinations in Spain and Portugal are cheaper too. Fares to the perennially popular Balearic islands of Ibiza and Menorca have taken a dive.
Average flight prices to Ibiza have dropped by a third and now cost up to £60 less. The drop for Menorca is not as significant but is still a healthy 23 percent. Kayak says fares to Majorca and Alicante have also fallen by 19 per cent.
Faro Airport is the main gateway to the southern Algarve region of Portugal. The Kayak study revealed that prices for flights from UK airports to Faro are a good 20 per cent cheaper.
The Kayak research also found flights to some of the top long-haul global destinations had dropped too. The team found that Mexico City was a bargain as flight prices were almost 40 per cent cheaper and could give savings of £289 when compared to median 2016 prices.
Other top long-haul hotspots with cheap flights for 2017 are Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, Auckland on New Zealand’s North Island and Singapore. These have dropped by 20 per cent or more.
