Kylie Minogue travels to Sydney for New Year’s Eve event

Kylie MinogueAustralian pop star Kylie Minogue arrived in Sydney on Friday as the creative ambassador and host of the city’s New Year’s Eve event. The 44-year-old has been made responsible for pressing the button for the fireworks and has promised to literally follow the theme, “Embrace”.

In a comment, Minogue said that this year has been huge for her, and New Year’s Eve is the finish line. She will definitely try to find time in all the hustle to appreciate everything she’s done this year and what a great year this has been to share with her fans. The singer also plans to hug model boyfriend Andre Velencoso, 34, at midnight. He arrived in Sydney to join the party, while the singer’s family will be attending as well.

Minogue added that she has been really excited about returning home since she agreed to be the host and ambassador for the event last year. Explaining why she pushed for the “Embrace” theme, the singer said that she loves the concept. It can mean many things, and she’s looking forward to embracing new opportunities next year.

The singer will be honoured tonight with a specially designed musical note firework display, which will be accompanied by 100,000 individual rockets. Some new designs will include hand images, an octopus and a koala. Minogue helped edit the soundtrack that will be played with the fireworks, and the finale has been remixed with her On a Night Like This single. Four colour schemes were also chosen by her for the show, including red, yellow, magenta and purple. These will include 11,000 shells and 25,000 shooting comets exploding from seven barges across Sydney Harbour. Fireworks director Fortunato Foti says that they try to make this show the best every year. They want people to say it’s the best they’ve ever seen.

Minogue isn’t the only celebrity in Sydney for the New Year. On Friday morning, Jonah Hill, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Foxx few in on a private jet. They are staying at the Darling hotel at the Star and are guests of the Tao Group, which operates the Marquee nightclub. Grammy-nominated DJ Dirty South, DJ Sam Ronson (Lindsay Lohan’s ex), actor Colton Haynes, actor Chace Crawford and actor Matthew Morrison are guests at the Marquee as well.

While Sydney will be hopping with celebrities and a great fireworks show, other capital cities will be hosting events of their own. Rockets will be launched from the tops of 18 buildings across Melbourne, where half-a-million people are expected to flock to welcome the New Year. There will be entertainment featured at Docklands, Treasury Gardens and Flagstaff Gardens. Lord Mayor Robert Doyle says anyone watching the city’s skyline will see fireworks.

Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart have plans for bringing in the New Year with fireworks, entertainment and other festivities as well. Even Tasmania is getting in on the celebratory action. Nothing will be able to keep viewers away.
