Late holiday deals may all be gone
Posted on: August 10th, 2009 by Peter HeadleyIf you have planned on leaving it to the last minute to book your holiday abroad this year you might well be in for a shock. The Met Office backpedalled on the barbeque summer that Britain was meant to have, which has led to a massive 40 per cent increase in last minute get aways being snapped up.
Some experts have warned that travel agents and online booking websites are running out of the last minute deals. This is partly due to the surge and the fact that around ten per cent less late deals were acquired this year by British travel agencies because of the predicted drop off in holiday sales due to the recession.
Many Brits this year were planning on a ‘staycation’ but when the revised forecast came in for the months of August and September people panicked that they were not going to see some sun. “All those people planning a ‘staycation’ panicked and started booking last minute deals. Most of the best deals are now gone. There’s going to be a moment when there is literally nothing left and we’re fairly close to that point now,” said Ian Bradly from the Association of Independent Tour Operators.
The best weather for the UK is set to be in the south east for the next couple of months with Scotland looking ready to receive the worst.
