Liverpool Airport plans for expansion

The owners and operators of Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport, Peel Airports, have unveiled their first plans for a £12 million expansion of the area. They say they want to make the airport bigger and more productive with better security facilities and twice as much retail space. They plan to start work on the project very soon, which should only take a year to complete.

The new security area is to be built on the third level on the eastern side of the airport and will improve access for those coming from the check-in desks. The security is being improved because of the trouble the airport encounters at peak times where it turns into a rush-hour nightmare with everyone running to catch planes.

The design will incorporate a brand new walk through duty-free shop that has a restaurant and a larger Business lounge. There will also be a further departure lounge on the second floor which is now currently the security area. Car rental areas will be moved from level one to a new facility in the multi-storey car park. Peel Airports have worked with many of the retailers at the airports who have expressed an interest in moving airside as there is more revenue to be earned.
