London Mayor helps out at new hotel
Posted on: July 23rd, 2009 by Peter HeadleyBoris Johnson, the Lord Mayor of London gave a helping hand in putting the final beam up at London’s latest hotel, the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge.
Johnson was joined by the chief executive of Park Plaza Hotels and Resorts, Boris Ivesha at the impressive £350 million hotel. It is has been built on the former site of the GLC building and has taken two and half years to complete. The hotel will have 1,021 rooms and is expected to create 800 new jobs in the area. It will also contain 30 meeting rooms, six restaurants, a luxury gym and spa and a ballroom.
The two Boris’s joined forces in placing the last beam of the hotel up and will now await the grand opening in the early part of next year.
“This impressive development has removed an awful eyesore that has blighted this corner of the capital for too long. A sparkling new hotel is just what the South Bank needs. I am sure it will act as a major springboard for the regeneration plans for Waterloo Station and the surrounding area, on top of creating hundreds of jobs and boosting the local economy,” said Mr Johnson
The latest planned opening of a hotel shows that investors are still willing to carry on despite the economic climate the world is in.
