Lonely Planet Publishes a ‘Volunteering’ Guidebook
Posted on: June 4th, 2007 by Garry RobertsonAre you the sort of traveller that looks around you in the countries that you visit and thinks that you would really like to contribute something there? Would you like to make some difference to the way that the people live and improve things for them with the bonus of making new friends of some of them, and other travellers? If that is the case then Lonely Planet have got just the thing for you. Their, Volunteer: A Traveller’s Guide to Making a Difference Around the World, has just been published.
This book is full of inspirational information and is very user-friendly. There is comprehensive advice about choosing what you would like to do and how to go about arranging it. Advice about funding and travel to the country of your choice is included. Useful information is also provided about what you can expect to find when you get to your destination and how to extend the experiences you have had after you return home.
All kinds of volunteer work are covered from the casual day or two when on a normal holiday to a more long term commitment. The way to go about starting your own charitable organization is also covered in the book.
This book was written by a team of authors who are passionate about the subject and who took advice from many experts in volunteer work abroad. There are personal stories from people who have related good and bad experiences whilst performing such work plus photographs of volunteers actually getting ‘hands on’ with their chosen work.
