Long haul travel agent packs up

A long haul travel agent that was founded over 40 years ago has thrown in the towel and closed down. The company Miles Travel based in Cranbrook, Kent blamed the closure on the “economic turn down.”
Miles Travel was part of an elite group called the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) who has their own website for people not wishing to use the high street chains.
The managing director of Miles Travel, Richard Loosley said all of their customers were fully aware of the situation and will be refunded in full any monies they have handed over to the company.
AITO had appointed the travel company as a specialist in their field of long haul destinations like India, North America, the Far East, China and Australasia where they had been sending people since 1968.
They were also a member of the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) and the 16th member of that group to cease trading only this year.
“This is undoubtedly a very tough year for the travel industry and people are booking much later than usual. Unless there is a late surge in bookings some operators could fail. In these circumstances it is more important than ever for holidaymakers to make ensure they are protected,” said the chairman of AITO, Derek Moore.
