Lufthansa increases presence in Florida
Posted on: May 14th, 2008 by Jean AdamsLufthansa has decided to increase the number of its transcontinental flights from Frankfurt to Orlando, after an initial period of success. The German flag carrier launched flights between Frankfurt and Orlando last fall, but at the time the airline only offered five weekly flights between these two cities. This number will now increase to daily flights, starting on October 26th, 2008. Martin Riecken, an airline spokesperson, told journalists that the new Florida route has “exceeded the carrier’s expectations.” Riecken went further to point out that the introduction of daily flights was a clear “reflection of good booking figures.”
Lufthansa already boasts an impressive network of destinations in North America, including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Washington, Philadelphia and Seattle. Germany’s flag carrier also serves destinations in Canada, including Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary, although many of these flights form part of a code-share deal with Air Canada.
Lufthansa is a full-service airline and passengers in economy class cabins are served a complimentary hot meal, as well as a snack and free beverages throughout the flight, on all transatlantic routes. On some flights, the carrier will also serve snacks during the screening of in-flight movies. Lufthansa, Europe’s largest carrier, was founded in 1926. The airline is a full member of the Star Alliance and currently flies to 209 destinations in 81 countries, relying on a fleet of 319 airplanes. The carrier also has an additional 145 aircraft on order.
