The St Giles hotelier group has unveiled its long term plans for the acquisition of UK additional properties. The Malaysian owned chain has revealed it is set to add another London hotel and one in Birmingham to its current UK collection.
The group is in the process of putting together a planning application for a London Blackfriars development which will feature a hotel with up to 600 guestrooms. The application should be submitted before the middle of next year and, if successful, the hotel will welcome its first guests in 2020.
The second establishment in Birmingham is also in the planning stages but the timeline for construction shows a start date at the end of next year. Close to the Midlands city’s New Street Station, it is four-star and will offer 400 guestrooms.
The addition of the UK hotels is part of the stated St Giles target of 20 global establishments by the year 2020. The two current London hotels are the St Giles Bloomsbury on Tottenham Court Road and the St Giles Heathrow.
These two hotels are either being revamped or expanded in the near future. The lobby area at the Bloomsbury is getting a £300,000 facelift while an extension at the Heathrow hotel will add another 100 guestrooms to bring the total to 400.
Europe and US regional manager Abigail Tan says the St Giles Heathrow has been averaging 95 per cent occupancy rates. Hospitality industry insiders say the new extension will cater to the increased numbers of passengers using the main London airport once its third runway is open.
