Malev unveils new in-flight menu
Posted on: April 17th, 2008 by Martin FellowesMalév Hungarian Airlines has unveiled a new summer menu, to take effect starting next month, aboard all of its short-haul and long-haul flights. Hungary’s flag carrier as decided to combine the tastes of Hungarian cuisine with international flavours, which will likely add excitement to the 140 flights that the airline operates each day. Additionally, Malév has pledged to place a stronger emphasis on offering healthy and more nutritious food and snacks. As such, Malév will offer passengers a selection of “light” and “easily digestible” meals.
The airline introduced its new menu within the context of a catering show, organized aboard a Boeing 737-700 airplane. The airline indicated that it will be rotating its menu on a weekly basis, in order to offer passengers better variety. As a full service airline, all economy class passengers receive complimentary light meals on short-haul European routes, which normally consist of sandwiches, cold cuts and breads, as well as salads. Those in business class are usually offered hot meals. All passengers also get to enjoy a selection of Hungarian wines, as well as other alcoholic beverages free of charge.
Péter Leonov, Malév’s CEO, told journalists that although the emphasis is on making the Hungarian carrier a profitable airline—after years of being in the red—the company’s executives realize that these actions must not compromise the quality of the in-flight experience for travelers. Leonov said that the goal was to provide passengers with quality Hungarian wines, as well as with healthy meal options.
