Man pretends to be US Air Marshall to fool airport security
Posted on: February 4th, 2010 by Taylor SmithA man has been accused of dressing up as a US Air Marshall to get around airport security by donning clothing with U.S. Marshal printed on it as well as a badge around his neck and a belt complete with replica pistol. Gregory Denny, 37, is accused of escorting a woman in handcuffs who he allegedly kidnapped past a transportation security administration supervisor by posing as a fake marshall. He has since been arrested for impersonating a police officer, false imprisonment, kidnapping, burglary and false arrest of the women whom he tried to take onto a departing flight.
Denny from Hemet, San Diego, has been released on $75,000 bail after being booked into Riverside Jail. The incident has been explained away by his attorney as a ‘family incident’ that has been misunderstood. Police however have accused Denny of entering a house in Hemet and identifying himself to the 28-year-old woman as a US Air Marshal whom he went on to tell he was detaining and then deporting her. She was then put into handcuffs. The woman has been identified as the wife of a distant cousin of Denny; Cherriebelle Hibbard.
Her husband, Craig Hibbard, was forced to purchase a plane ticket for his pregnant wife and three days after the incident Craig Hibbard called the US Marshal Service when he found out Denny was not an agent. By this time Cherriebelle Hibbard had been flown to Manila and it has also been claimed that the victim was waiting for her green card to be renewed.
