A free application for the Apple iPhone is being offered by Manchester Airport. The app is aimed to help passengers use the airport’s facilities. Some of the features include real-time flight information for both arrivals and departures. Travelers will be able to view if a flight is ready to board, as well as be able to save specific flights on a personal list.
Another feature is the ability for users to view Google maps of the terminal buildings, which will help passengers find certain cafes, shops and other facilities. iPhone users will also be able to save time and money by pre-booking parking at the airport.
Manchester Airport commercial director Andrew Harrison said that, having launched their travel extra brand The Travel Extras Store, they wanted to continue developing all of their supporting applications around it, which has been continued through this iPhone app. They want their customers to have the services they need in a way that suits them, he continued. Digital and internet technology is of increasing interest for them across all their airports, he added, and they want to stay ahead of everyone else.
This is only the first step of a launch that Manchester Airport hopes to expand, giving travelers the ability to book all holiday extras on their iPhone through this application, which was developed with KMP Digitata, the airport’s digital support agency. KMP client services director Rhodri Edwards said that they didn’t want to make just any application or launch one just to do it. The next step is to see if travelers can start using the application to book services that they want from Manchester Airport, he added.
