With the recent announcements of some airlines pulling out of Manchester Airport it is encouraging to learn that the fall of passengers using Manchester was not as large as expected, also one carrier has revealed a new route for next summer.
Ryanair were one of the first major carriers to bail on the airport reducing their flight schedule by 90 per cent and just recently Delta Airlines have said that they will discontinue their New York service that they have been operating since May 2006. However Bmibaby have said that from next summer they will offer a twice weekly flight to Lourdes in France.
Flights will travel on Mondays and Fridays to the town located close to the Pyrenees so travellers can make the most of a long weekend or have a weekday break. Bmibaby expects to handle around 9,000 passengers each season they operate, which will run from April to October every year. The new service will increase the number flights operated by Bmibaby at Manchester to 19 over the next summer.
The number of passengers using the north west departure point actually fell by a little over nine per cent in August compared to the same time last year with only 2.152 million, down from 2.373 million.
