The Marriott chain is getting ready to dramatically increase its presence in the Middle East, by more than doubling the number of hotels it currently has in Gulf countries. Marriott currently only has 26 hotels across the region, but within a short three years, it expects that this number will stand at 65. If all goes according to plan, JW Marriott Jr., the firm’s will sign a deal in the coming days, which will lead to the development of nine new hotels. These nine establishments alone would add more than 2,000 rooms to Marriott’s Middle East network.
One of the new developments will be a resort in Marsa Alam, Egypt, while other properties to be built in the coming year include a Courtyard Hotel, as well as another Renaissance Hotel, both in Abu Dhabi, one of the largest cities in the United Arab Emirates.
Marriott’s Middle Eastern branch operates some of the most prominent brand-names in the hospitality industry, including the Ritz-Carlton, Marriott Executive Apartments, Courtyard, Renaissance and JW Marriott Resorts. Marriott specializes in luxury hotels, although in recent years it has also tried to enter the intermediate price range market. The chain owns some 2,300 hotels and resorts in the United States.
