Maryland case highlights expensive hire car fuel prices

A recent survey of eight major car hire operators at 10 air hubs explained that the rental rates businesses and consumers pay for returning a car with a nearly empty tank of petrol is as high as $8 for a gallon. Maryland Attorney General Douglas Gansler handled the high costs last week and was able to establish an agreement with the automobile rental agencies, after Maryland’s government threatened to fine or sue or them, to reduce the fees.Bill Connors of the National Business Travel Association noted: “It might add thousands of bucks of costs to a Fortune 100 firm’s travel budget.”
