Michael Douglas has admitted that the throat cancer he was diagnosed with, and just recently announced, is more serious than they initially thought. However, the film star is still optimistic that this intensive treatment will be successful. The 65-year-old star is married to Catherine Zeta-Jones and only revealed the diagnosis 3 weeks ago after he returned to the US from a family holiday. However, he didn’t say how serious the disease was in the interview with People magazine.
Talking to David Letterman on the Late Show, he said that the cancer is in stage 4, which is intense and means they have to start treating right now. He continued that he has been suffering from throat issues for several months. He went through a bunch of doctors and tests, but they didn’t find anything. Then he had a great summer, spending time with his wife and kids in Spain and St. Petersburg, Russia, which was fantastic. When he got back, someone told him to let them have a look, he explained. Everything happened within 3 weeks – a biopsy and analyzing it.
Douglas is undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, he continued. The percentages are good, he said, citing an 80% chance that it will improve with certain hospitals and everything. (Of course we hope this will be the outcome!)
The star is one of the most well known in Hollywood, as he starred in over 40 films. These include Fatal Attraction, Wall Street (which he has just made a sequel for, The Money Never Sleeps), Basic Instinct, Traffic and War of the Roses.
