More choice in Manchester for budget travelers
Posted on: December 17th, 2007 by Samantha WilliamsManchester residents will soon enjoy more choice when it comes to booking discount airfares for departures from the city’s international airport. EasyJet has announced that it plans to establish a base at the
Manchester International Airport and will begin operating an expanded network of routes from one of
Britain’s largest urban centers. EasyJet purchased British Airways owned and operated GB Airways, which has two airplanes located at the
Manchester Airport. The UK’s largest low-cost carrier, however, has announced that it will be adding three more airplanes to this fleet, thus increasing its permanent presence in
Manchester to five aircraft. EasyJet will begin operating GB’s regular routes as of March 29, 2008.
Although it already maintains a base at Liverpool’s
John Lennon Airport, Mike Campbell, one of the discount carrier’s directors, indicated that EasyJet plans to expand operations in Manchester in order to give residents of
England’s North-West more choice when it comes to low-cost tickets and EasyJet services. In addition to expanding BG’s Manchester-based fleet, easy has also confirmed that it will further develop its fleet at the
Liverpool airport, increasing the number of available planes to 10 within the next two years. A precise list of new destinations has yet to be announced, but will likely include popular continental European capital cities, as well as holiday resorts in Spain and possibly in
Portugal as well. In a recent news release, EasyJet did reveal that it will be adding a new route from Gatwick to
Biarritz, France, which will be launched in May 2008.
