Most Brits Eat Fast Food on Holiday

Fast Food ClipartResearch has revealed that at least 65 per cent of UK holidaymakers head to familiar fast food chains while in foreign countries, with 59 per cent admitting that they rarely taste local food or completely avoid it altogether. A study by Dubai’s tourism board has exposed Britain’s holiday eating habits, as two thirds said that they recharge their batteries with Burger King, KFC, and McDonald’s. Half confessed to hitting the British pubs in the destination they were visiting for a pint and altogether shunned local bars.

The figures revealed that holidaymakers from Wales are the most unadventurous gastronomes while venturing abroad. Travellers from East Anglia proved to be among the most adventurous when it comes down to sampling what’s on offer locally. Unsurprisingly for a nation that has an abundance of favourite foodstuffs, 25 per of Brit holidaymakers admitted to packing items to take abroad that included tea bags, chocolate, and biscuits. An amusing 23 per cent confessed to being unable to leave the UK without their tomato ketchup or Marmite.

Ian Scott, the director of Dubai Tourism’s UK and Ireland department, said that it is a shame Brits fail to take advantage of some of the fantastic local cuisine that is available in foreign countries and should start being more adventurous as they are missing out on experiencing the local culture of the destination as well as great food.
