Motorhome rentals near airport rise

Holidaymakers flying into the Exeter airport are driving up the demand for motorhome rentals this year, reported the managing director of a local car hire firm.

Rob Burrell, Practical Car and Van Rental’s managing director, says that his company rents out motorhomes to area visitors, from its operations base at Clyst Honiton, near the Exeter International Airport. Other franchises in the Practical Car and Van Rental operation began renting motorhomes over two years ago. The business was so successful that Practical’s head office asked Mr Burrell if he would like to try doing the same at the Exeter location.

“We’ve got two motorhomes at the moment, but we’re hoping to expand,” said Mr Burrell. Both have room for up to six berths but one has a lounge area at the back. We’re also providing quite a few optional extras. People can hire televisions, bikes and bike racks.”

Mr Burrell noted that many of the motorhome rental customers were Europeans arriving on Flybe flights. He continued: “We also get a lot of trade from the Canada flight. They are the sort of people who go for motorhomes. It’s all part of their lifestyle.”
