Mushroom soup sparks emergency on Ryanair flight
Posted on: August 27th, 2008 by Benjamin TierAn entirely innocuous case of leaky mushroom soup sparked an emergency on a Ryanair flight earlier today, according to a BBC News report. The Ryanair flight was flying from Budapest’s Ferihegy Airport to Dublin, but a health emergency occurred when a container of mushroom soup stored in an overhead compartment started dripping on a passenger who happened to suffer from a mushroom allergy. Other passengers noticed that the unnamed man began to experience difficulty breathing and he also started to swell, as part of the allergic reaction to having come into contact with mushrooms.
Ryanair cabin crew alerted the pilot immediately and the plane’s captain decided to land at Germany’s Frankfurt Hahn Airport, in order to ensure that the ailing passenger received immediate medical attention. The aircraft landed successfully at the German airport and the passenger in question was promptly treated by local medics. The Boeing 737 plane was, however, delayed by about two hours, due to the emergency.
The Irish low-cost carrier made headlines in recent days when it was revealed that there were problems with oxygen masks during an emergency landing in Limoges France). Another incident on a Thomsonfly flight also raised eyebrows. One of the ovens onboard the plane reportedly caught on fire during the flight.
Thank you to BBC News for the initial report.
