Posted on: May 18th, 2010 by Kate PooleA 16-year-old girl by the name of Natasha Elliott was killed by a train while she tried to rescue her dog from the tracks. She was knocked down after the pet wandered onto the tracks about 500 yards from her house.
This incident happened on Sunday evening while Natasha was walking close to her Morley, Leeds home with her boyfriend. The dog walked onto the tracks near Morley Station. It’s believed that the dog is a German Shepherd called Zeus and survived the incident. However, Natash was pronounced dead after an ambulance took her to the hospital.
Over 30 bunches of flowers were left by her relatives and friends near the scene of the tragedy. Natasha was set to take her GCSEs over the next few weeks. She was living with her dad after her mother died many years ago.
According to a British Transport Police spokesman, Natasha is thought to have been trying to get her dog off the tracks when she was hit by the 5:52pm Northern Rail service from York to Blackpool North. He continued that reports of the accident were given to them at 6:44pm, and they went to the scene with an ambulance. The girl died after being taken to the hospital, he added.
The police spokesman also said that they aren’t treating the accident as suspicious, and they will prepare a file for the coroner. He added that their thoughts are with Natasha’s family and friends. The staff and friends at her secondary school were shocked by the tragedy. John Townsley, the headmaster, said that she was very loved and admired. Her death is a profound loss for the community, he added.
