The World Travel & Tourism Council – WTTC – has named Nature Air its winner of the 2009 Tourism for Tomorrow Conservation Award for the carbon-neutral carrier’s sustainable tourism practices and commitment to protecting the natural heritage of Costa Rica.

Other awards were presented as well: Grupo PUTACANA of the Dominican Republic – the Destination Stewardship Award; Nature Air, Costa Rica – the Conservation Award; Zakoura Foundation for Micro-Credits, Morocco – the Community Benefit Award; and Marriott International Inc, USA & Global – the Global Tourism Business Award.

Nature Air was selected on the basis of its 100 per cent carbon-neutral programme, which engages its customers in a mandatory carbon-offset scheme, and also due to its commitment to reducing fuel consumption both on the ground and in the air. Nature Air developed the only bio-fuelling station in Costa Rica, and formed Nature Kids, a non-profit foundation that teaches English and environmental studies in local communities.

“The environment is precious and we are thrilled to receive his wonderful recognition by WTTC for our conservation efforts,” said Nature Air founder and CEO, Alex Khajavi. “This award is a motivator for all of us at Nature Air to continue searching for ways which add a positive value to the social and environmental challenges we face.”
