A new low-cost service on bmibaby from Birmingham to Newquay has been launched in time to help Midlanders save some money on breaks this summer. According to recent Tesco Travel Money research, Midlanders are Britain’s thriftiest when it comes to holiday travel, spending £56 less per week per person than the overall UK average.
Other than the money involved, the new service offers convenience as well, making it possible for Midland ‘staycationers’ to reach the Cornwall’s surfing capital in slightly over an hour on bmibaby, rather than enduring four hours of driving on the M5.
It won’t be just Midlanders hitting the surf in Newquay, either, according to a recent poll, which showed Cornwall to be the top destination for Brits planning a break closer to home this summer. With waves breaking at up to 35ft, it the Cornish resort has become Britain’s number one spot for surfing.
Julian Carr, the commercial director at bmibaby, said: “There is a strong surf scene in the Midlands area, and keen surfers now have the chance to get to the UK’s surfing capital quickly, easily, and, of course, at low cost! Cornwall is a coastal gem in the UK and we look forward to carrying thousands of passengers on the service over the summer months.”
According to surfing experts in the UK, approximately 250,000 Britons head for surfing spots each year, with many choosing Newquay.
