New Budget Airline Skywise Lands in South Africa

Skywise plane photo ( has been a lot of bad news for the airline industry over the last several years. Top that off with planes disappearing last year and it seems like the industry is really struggling. However, that hasn’t stopped other airlines from trying to enter the market. In fact, a new budget airline is planning to enter the market later this month.

Skywise is going to offer its first official flight on February 11. Just like other budget airlines, this company is going to focus on offering passengers flights for cheap. Passengers who want more out of their flights will have to pay fees for certain services.

Skywise is made possible thanks to the people who founded 1time Airline and other industry veterans who have made names for themselves. Just because the first official flight for the airline is on February 11 doesn’t mean that ordinary passengers will be flying. These first few flights will be dedicated to staff, crew and other people in the industry. The airline won’t run its first official commercial flight until March 16.

Those who want to pick up tickets for the first flight can do so starting mid-February. Johan Bortslap, an executive for Skywise, says that ticket prices haven’t been finalized yet, but the plan is to make sure that they are lower than current airfare. The prices should be a surprise to the public as a whole. Being a small carrier with only one route to start with is a very big advantage for the airline. This means that it can offer a service that it knows is good. Staff can focus all of their efforts on making sure that it’s the best airline for that route. Other airlines can’t focus on offering such a unique experience.

To start with, the airline will fly between Cape Town and Johannesburg. This is a good starting point because this is a very popular route in South Africa. The airline plans on offering other routes later, but executives haven’t made it clear as to what those routes will be.
