New InterContinental hotels open in Egypt

Four new InterContinental Hotels are opening in the Egyptian resort town of Marsa Alam later this week. The InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) will actually start operating four existing establishments at this popular holiday destination, including the prominent Port Ghalib Resort, as well as the Marina Lodge Hotel. Additionally, the town will offer visitors a choice of two Crowne Plaza hotels and an International Convention Centre. While the Marina Lodge Hotel will maintain its distinct brand name and identity, InterContinental will be the exclusive manager of the Port Ghalib Resort.

InterContinental will essentially cooperate with Sovereign Hospitality Holdings, and Egyptian company, when it comes to running these establishments. John Bamsey, InterContinental’s chief operating officer in charge of the chain’s business in both the Middle East and Africa, observed that the two sides have already established a strong relationship, and this will surely continue well into the future.

One of the largest of the four new hotels that the international chain will now manage is the Port Ghalib Resort, which offers guests 309 rooms, including 14 luxury suites. The hotel’s main advantage is that many of these rooms offer stunning views of the Red Sea. The Crowne Plaza Sahara Sands, however, is even larger, offering a total of 347 rooms. The International Convention Centre also plays a key role in the region, as it is the most prominent such facility, with a ballroom that can accommodate up to 1,500 guests.
