After their 2009 and 2010 cruise concerts sold out, New Kids on the Block, the 1980s pop band, have announced that they will do a third one next year. The 4-night journey will start on May 12 aboard the Carnival Destiny, which is operated by Carnival Cruise Lines. The ship will depart Miami and include calls in Half Moon Cay, the cruise line’s private Bahamas island, and Nassau.
The Carnival Destiny can carry 2,642 passengers, which is actually bigger than the vessels they used for the other two cruise concerts. This voyage will also be a day longer than the other two. Tickets for NKOTB Cruise 2011 are going on general sale today at 3pm.
The 2009 cruise concert the New Kids on the Block did was a kick-off for their North America reunion tour. It was sold out nearly immediately and was so popular that the NKOTB.com site’s server crashed the first day the cruise was first advertised. Over 2,000 fans booked that voyage, and Carnival reported that 6 out of 7 of them were women.
The third NKOTB voyage will include a lot of opportunities for the guests to interact with the band – deck and beach parties and photo sessions – like in the other two cruises. The full details haven’t been announced yet, but the band’s website will release more information soon.
A Carnival spokesman, Vance Gulliksen, said that the cruise line loves these cruise concerts. This is not only because the ships get sold out, but because the fans fall in love with cruising and book with them again for their own holiday.
