The newest hotelier in London appears to be approaching the opening of his new “alluring haven of hedonism” with a bold confidence, even though the timing of its launch comes during one of the worst economic downturns in years.
Mark Fuller’s new 30-room hotel in the capital is being called the “rock’n’roll” hotel, due to the background of the owners and the “anything goes” philosophy behind its service as well. Among the hotel’s owners are the co-managers of the heavy metal band Iron Maiden.
“We do not recognize there is a credit crunch because we believe you should battle through it,” said Fuller, who added: “If you get panicky and scary about things like this you’re no man at all.”
Fuller does remember, of course, that when he started worked on the hotel’s concept three years ago, there was no credit crunch.
He noted that by the time the recession hit, it was just too late to stop. “We wouldn’t do anyway,” Fuller went on to say. “Fortune favours the brave, as they say.”
The launch party for Sanctum Soho will feature plenty of celebrities, champagne and cocktails – with everyone acting as if a crunch doesn’t exist.
Fuller is hoping that plenty of guests will want to sample his world. “In every downturn in the economic climate I think people look for some affordable glamour and escape,” he commented.
