New UK domestic airline launches in March

A brand new domestic airline, Varsity Express, will be launched on the 10th March offering flights between Oxford and Edinburgh. The service will be aimed at business people, but is available for everyone to use. A Jetstream 31 is the plane of choice and has 18 seats available on each flight with prices starting as low as £49 for a one-way trip and booking are ready to be taken from today onwards.

Flights will operate on a Monday to Friday with just one flight per day for the initial period. The LNQ601 flight will depart Oxford at 08:00 and arrive into Edinburgh at 09:30 and the return leg will depart Edinburgh at 17:00 landing back down south at around 18:30, which is often less time than it take to get to London from Oxford at these times.

Management at the airline has said that they aim to deliver an efficient service to their passengers without all the hassle that the larger airlines offer of overcrowded planes and additional fees that seem to be taking over. The airline is owned by a consortium who has pledged sufficient funds to get the services going throughout the coming year. They also plan to launch more affordable domestic routes across the UK. The aim is to carry 6,500 passengers in the first year of operation with a 55-45 per cent split on business and leisure travellers.

Last year was a turbulent year in the air travel business and the launch of a new airline shows that businesses have strong belief in the recovery of the UK economy.
