New Zealand hailed as most popular destination
Posted on: May 1st, 2008 by Jean AdamsNew Zealand is considered to be the world’s best tourist destination, according to a major international survey conducted by TripAdvisor. Milford Sound and Queenstown turned out to be the two most popular destinations for travellers in the world. TripAdvisor made its decision based on the votes cast by the website’s users, who also singled out Banff, British Columbia and California’s Lake Tahoe as two other top destinations. Many of the site’s users chose these destinations due to the high quality sports and recreation facilities that they offer, but TripAdvisor was quick to point out that these are hardly the only factors that are taken into account. The survey asked participants to choose destinations that they were most likely to visit again in the future and Milford Sound, as well as Queenstown came out on top.
Although two destinations in New Zealand came out at the front of the top ten destionations list, other popular places also received impressive marks. For example, Cuba’s Cayo Largo was near the front of the list, while Rhodes, in Greece, also earned top marks from seasoned travellers. Nearly six miliion TripAdvior members provided their input when asked by the world’s largest travel review website and the firm based its conclusions on these results. George Hickton, Tourism New Zealand’s CEO, observed that the two awards serve as a „huge credit” to NZ’s tourism and hospitality industry. The survey results also suggest that the country’s promotional campaign is working, since the young and adventurous travellers that frequent TripAdvisor form the group that New Zealand is targetting.
