Newcastle International Airport wins top prize
Posted on: December 15th, 2009 by Samantha WilliamsA recent boost in passenger numbers and services has led to Newcastle International Airport being named as the best in the country. A ceremony was held in London this week by the British Air Transport Association (BATA) and the bash saw the regional airport win top prize; mainly due to a recent influx in flight routes. From January 2010, Brussels Airlines will be flying from Newcastle to the capital of Belgium three times a week and Flybe have also launched new services running from Newcastle to Hannover in Germany as of March 2010.
The chief executive for the airport, Dave Laws, spoke of his delight to win the award and they beat of fierce competition from East Midlands and Cardiff. The last few years have seen the airport make many changes and improvements and the title of the best regional airport is seen as recognition to the hard work that has been put in by so many. The awards are decided by professionals within the travel sector and wining the top award is a huge compliment.
The award is also seen as a good way to secure future investing and development with the title acting as an incentive for many to support the airport in the future. It is also believed that more exciting routes such as ones to Dubai with Emirates Airlines also helped Newcastle International Airport to scoop the coveted award. Two other new routes will be brought in for summer 2010 to Burgas in Bulgaria and Izmir in Turkey.
