In defence of the work of the Coalition Government, Nick Clegg has said that people will be able to see the achievements of the party much more clearly by the time next election comes around.
The Liberal Democrat party has suffered badly in polls after failing to keep its promises, but the party’s leader Nick Clegg says that they are not going to just give up.
He added that the direction of the new government was clearly liberal.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4′s Today programme he said that state-owned bank bosses must show sensitivity over bonuses.
Mr Clegg said that the new policy would eventually be seen as more progressive than the original system despite strong criticism from voters over his voting in favour of the rise to tuition fees, despite the fact that his party had campaigned against them in the last election.
He added that the new government has crafted a system which he thinks will make a pleasant change for people.
He admitted that this year may be difficult, what with the spending cuts and raised VAT but that the road to economic recovery was well in sight and that consumer confidence will start to show too.
He also said that this year will be crucial to the development of the country’s ailing economy and although there are many challenging circumstances to be face by many people, he hopes that this year will be successful in helping to implement the changes that will begin the economic repair.
This is the first serious electoral test for the Lib Dems since they entered the government as they go into the Oldham East and Saddleworth by-election on Thursday.
