As of Thursday this week passengers using Ryanair will be required to check-in online prior to departure. There will be a large window for this service which ranges from 15 days to four hours before departure. Passengers that have luggage for the hold will have to use the new “bag drop” desks that are now established at airports the low-cost airline uses. As well as all this customers must remember to print out their own boarding card or face a bill of up to £40 for the ticket counter to print one for you.
The move was announced back in March this year and was met with a slight outcry from the public complaining that not everyone had access to the internet, although this is how the vast majority of Ryanair flights are booked. Ryanair stated that they were doing this to reduce yet more costs to the travelling public and making the whole airport process smoother. Without the added queuing at check-in desks there will be more time for passengers to make their planes.
Ryanair have released simple statistics about their customers which say that almost 75 per cent already use the online check-in service and only 30 per cent travel with luggage for the hold. To check-in online will cost £5 which is half the amount Ryanair claims it costs when passengers use a desk.
