No survivors of Ethiopian plane crash
Posted on: January 26th, 2010 by Robert BergersonRescue and emergency services have so far not recovered any survivors from the Ethiopian Airlines plane that crashed into the Mediterranean Sea shortly after take-off from Beirut. The Boeing 737-800 had 90 passengers and crew when it left Lebanon early on Monday morning, amid a terrible storm. It is not yet known what caused the plane to crash into the sea, but terrorism has been ruled for the time being.
A rescue operation was soon underway after reports of the jet ditching into the sea. Military boats and helicopters combed the area looking for the faint sign of life, but have so far just pulled dead bodies from the sea. Relatives arriving at the airport were hysterical at the news confirmed that the plane had gone down. Others waited on the coastline hoping for news, but as the light faded of the day, so did the look in some of their eyes of finding their loved ones.
Officials from Lebanon and Ethiopian Airlines have been quick to rule terrorism, despite the intelligence that a Shiite Political group is based at the airport to take care of the importation of weapons in the country. On board the jet was mainly a mix of Lebanese and Ethiopian, but there was thought to be two Brits as well as the French ambassador’s, to Lebanon, wife.
The search will continue for body and the now small chance of survivors and they will hope to gain the black box in the hope of identifying what went wrong with the flight causing it to crash.
