Norwegian Cruise Line Passenger Took Marijuana Aboard

According to reports, another cruise line guest has been removed from a ship in Bermuda for possession of marijuana in the country. George Koumoulis, age 37, is said to have been taken off the Norwegian Dawn, which is owned and operated by Norwegian Cruise Line, last Thursday after police found 7.66 grams of pot in his cabin. The ship had been traveling from New York on a week-long voyage.

The attention of police that there was pot on the ship is said to have come from passengers that smelled it coming from his room and then complained. Staff on the vessel went to investigate, during which they found 3 packages of cigarette papers and 2 Ziploc bags with an unknown substance.

It’s been reported that Koumoulis admitted that the drugs were his when the police boarded the ship and questioned him. At his hearing on Tuesday, he told the Magistrates’ Court that it was a stupid mistake and apologized to the courts for it. Then he was sentenced to pay a fine of US$1,500 by Acting Senior Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo, who also ordered the payment immediately or 3 months in default.

It is known that Bermuda has strict laws on the possession of drugs. They are also known for using drug-sniffing dogs to find illegal substances on cruise ships. Their police force has made a number of arrests this way in recent years, and the passengers are held on the island for days some of the time.

Travelers should understand another country’s laws before traveling there. This is the only way to ensure they don’t run into trouble. However, it’s a better idea not to possess illegal substances no matter if they are at home or abroad.
