The first of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Breakaway Plus class of ships docked at Southampton on Tuesday morning following a maiden sailing from Hamburg. Firework displays had marked the onset of the Norwegian Escape’s inaugural voyage the previous evening.
The luxury cruise liner was scheduled to make two short jaunts around the English Channel to give travel industry professionals insights into her ample features and a taste of things to come from the Breakaway Plus class. After these short voyages are over the Norwegian Escape will sail across the Atlantic Ocean to her new home port in Miami.
The official naming ceremony of the ship at her new Florida home has been scheduled for 9 November and US rapper Pitbull is set to do the honours. The Norwegian Escape is a super-cruiser and has a capacity of 4,248 passengers.
Options for wining, dining and entertainment rival some of the finest holiday resorts around the world. Passengers will find a spa with its own snow room, courts for bocce and basketball, a small golf course and pools with four different chutes and slides.
A boardwalk with a series of restaurants provides something for all comers. Gourmands can sample delicious tapas at Pincho and succulent seafood at Bayamo while the Food Republic is a classy food court. Among other options are the Supper Club and Cagney’s.
The choice is no less diverse for drinking and nightlife. The Tobacco Road bar looks as though it has been transported straight from its Miami locale. The Five O’clock Somewhere Bar and a Michael Mondavi wine bar are two of the other choices for passengers.
