New York City’s official marketing organization. NYC & Company, has recently launched a campaign to encourage more gays from around the world to visit the city.
The initiative will run for a year, and is in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Stonewall, the riots that are associated with the beginning the gay rights movement.
Rainbow Pilgrimage, as the campaign is being called, will promote NYC tourism through digital banner messaging starting from 13 April in the UK and other key markets around the world.
From later in April through June, outdoor ads will appear in Spain and the UK.
The message of the ads is that a visit to New York City is a ‘rite of passage’ for gay and lesbian travelers.
“New York City is an iconic destination for the gay and lesbian visitor,” said the CEO of NYC & Company, George Fertitta.
“We are eager to invite and welcome even more gay travelers to visit New York City in 2009 not only to celebrate the historical significance of the Stonewall Riots anniversary, but also to take in all the energy, beauty and vibrancy our great city has to offer.”
Domestic travel packages can be booked on the NYC & Company website through Travelocity. UK travelers can book through Lastminute.com.
