One way Avis rentals remain more expensive
Posted on: June 25th, 2008 by Dave AndersonIn the vast majority of cases, renting an Avis vehicle for a one-way drive is still noticeably more expensive than if a client hires a car which he/she collects and then returns to the same rental location. In the United Kingdom, domestic one-way car hires arranged through Avis usually incur an additional £40 fee, while those who plan to rent a car in Britain, only to drive it one-way and return it to an Avis location in another country will have to pay substantially more. One-way car rentals are normally most convenient for those who use a vehicle to drive from one point to another, when there is no need to return to the original location. One of the best times to arrange a one-way rental is when one must travel from one town to another, in order to catch a flight at a distant airport. In this case, it would be impossible to return the rental vehicle to the original outlet.
Despite the extra costs that one-way Avis rental incur, it is well worth remembering that in a few cases, car hire giants will actually offer promotional deals aimed at encouraging clients to book for one-way only. This is most common in Florida, where many extra vehicles are shipped in during the winter months, thanks to the arrival of snowbirds, but must then be redistributed to the northeast in late spring. While it generally costs rental companies extra money to ship cars back to the original location after one-way bookings, in a few cases-such as in Florida-renters can assist with this process and reap very significant rewards. In these instances, one-way rentals will cost a fraction of the price of regular car hires.
