Online Retail Giant Amazon Announces Plans to Hire 900 Staff in Scotland LogoGreat news for the people who are unemployed in Scotland. Apparently well-known online retail giant Amazon has just announced its plans to actually hire some 900 people in the area. This is actually going to be the second biggest expansion that Amazon has done in Scotland this year. Overall, the company has been showing a big push for its operations in Scotland.

Reports go on to show that this new hiring scheme is going to see hundreds of jobs getting created in Dunfermline. However, it is important to note that the company said that only about 500 of these jobs are going to be permanent. This means that the remaining 400 jobs are going to be temporary positions. Amazon said that the temporary jobs would likely be at a new customer service center that is located in Edinburgh.

As said earlier, this is now the second biggest hiring expansion scheme that the company has announced this year. In fact, this new announcement comes just a few months after Amazon had shown off its plans to hire 950 full-time jobs in Scotland. Needless to say, Amazon has been a big help to the Scottish economy.

The next question people have is: When will this new customer service center in Edinburgh finally be open? According to Amazon, this center should finally open its doors this August. This does mean that it will be open just a few months before Amazon opens its one million square foot fulfillment center in Dunfermline.

Alex Salmond, who is the First Minister, was pleased with this news. He said that Amazon is already globally recognized as a leader in the online retail market. Thus he, as well as many others, are just delighted that the company is looking to expand its operations in Scotland with the creation of its brand new customer service center.

He went on to say that Amazon has a substantial presence in Scotland. This new announcement from the giant is just a testament to that statement. Overall, this announcement helps to provide a big boost to the local economy. The Scottish Government is doing all that it can to help attract new jobs and investment opportunities across the country.

Allan Lyall, who is the vice president of European Operations and Customer Service at Amazon, said that Scotland has been home to a great number of Amazon fulfillment centers for many years. Thus, the company is very delighted to be expanding its operations in this country once again.

Of course, for Amazon to be recognized as a giant in the online retail market, they have to expand their presence all over the world. The best way to do this is to continue to open up fulfillment centers in as many different countries as possible. Only this way will Amazon be able to deliever the quality service that it is well known for.
