OpenSkies, the British Airways subsidiary that will begin flying from Brussels and Paris on key transatlantic routes this spring, has announced some of the perks that passengers can expect to enjoy on all flights. One of the most important innovations, when it comes to in-flight service, is that OpenSkies is planning on jettisoning the traditional “chicken or beef” meal options that are so closely associated with negative images of airline food. Instead, passengers will be invited to choose dishes a la carte and, of course, these will all be included within the price of the ticket. Dale Moss, the carrier’s spokesperson, noted that OpenSkies also intends to offer a greater selection of fresh and healthy meal options, observing that the “service style is modelled from a fine dining restaurant.”
OpenSkies passengers will first be transported from Paris Charles de Gaulle to New York-JFK, but the new carrier plans to introduce other destinations in the near future. Revamped Boeing 757 aircrafts will be used on this route and passengers can expect premium quality service, akin to what they would receive in BA’s Club World cabin. In fact, the flatbed seats that have been fitted into the revamped Boeing jets have, quite literally, been taken straight from Club World. OpenSkies, however, is quick to point out that all of these seats are being refurbished before they are put into use.
The BA subsidiary plans to take to the skies in June, but there is a chance that these intentions may be disrupted as a pilots strike looms large over British Airways, and one that may also inspire solidarity from pilots in the US.
