Global hotelier Marriot inaugurated the luxury Sanya Edition resort on southern China’s Hainan Island last month. The 50-acre resort complex at the island’s Haitang Bay incorporates a five-acre expanse of private ocean, an amusement park, a holiday village and art galleries.
This full range of added facilities and beautiful landscaping means guests staying at the Sanya Edition are able to enjoy watersports and Hainan’s balmy environment without ever leaving the premises. The 512 sea-facing accommodation units are très chic and equipped with all the amenities and conveniences discerning travellers are likely to need.
The Sanya Edition’s private sea features a pump system which circulates 22 million litres of water daily from the adjacent South China Sea. Among the watersports on offer are canoeing, sailing and paddle-boarding. The premises provides residents with a good assortment of wining and dining venues, a spa, a gym fitted with modern exercise machines and a kiddies’ centre.
Marriot’s Edition brand is operated in collaboration with legendary US hotelier Ian Schrager. The Sanya Edition is the fourth launched under the marque and joins sister establishments at Miami Beach and New York City in the US, and a UK premises a stone’s throw from London’s Oxford Street.
Ian Schrager and Marriott have been working together for almost 10 years. They have another 16 hotels on the agenda. A second China Edition Hotel in Shanghai is set to welcome its first guests this year. As Schrager himself says, China is the way forward and the Edition brand will respond to demand for peerless experiences with its host of unique features.
