In the second race of the Hertz MINI Challenge sponsored by Pizza Capers, the wins so-far have gone to newcomers Peter McNiven and Dean Canto. The duo battled it out till the very end with McNiven pulling ahead in the last lap to take the win.
The race opened up with a bang and both drivers managed to avoid several spills which allowed them to gain a lead early on in the race. After eight laps, Canto and McNiven came into the last turn at each other’s necks with the race looking like it would go to Canto.
However, at the last minute McNiven managed to dart to the inside and pull ahead for the win. McNiven beat out Canto with a 0.83 second lead. This is the second MINI Challenge Race in a row to come down to a fraction of a second for the win.
McNiven said that the race was amazing especially because him and Canto remained so close the entire time. He added that following a driver like Canto was a good learning experience and that he learned a lot about the track as well. The rookie also commented on his hopes for a championship spot come tomorrow.
In third place, closing out the podium behind the battling duo was Sean Carter, a 19-year old speedster who has wowed audiences with his driving in both of the beginning races for the MINI Challenge. The third race in the series will take place tomorrow at 8:15 in the morning.
