Plans for first hotel in space revealed
Posted on: November 3rd, 2009 by Robert BergersonThe first hotel to be opened in space in 2012 has released details of what visitors can expect from their stay. The plans to open in just three years are all on schedule and the Galactic Suite Space Resort are looking forward to accepting their first visitors. The project has recently received a $3 billion grant to finance the hotel from an anonymous donor, and the hotel is expected to be a pricey stay. The makers of the space resort are from Barcelona and they plan to charge customers €3 million ($4.4 million) for three nights at the hotel.
Passengers will arrive to the hotel in a rocket and after a three-day stay they will return the earth. The hotel is likely to be 280 miles above earth and it will hold up to four guests and two pilots. There is to be no staff on the rocket or at the hotel and it will take around 36 hours to get there.
The price will include an eight-week course where people wishing to stay at the hotel must train for their time in space on a tropical island. A total of 43 people have already made their reservations and more than 200 in total have shown an interest. However, many doubt that the project will be finished in time and claim that the costs to make such a resort are likely to exceed the budget.
The CEO of Galactic Suite, Xavier Claramunt, said that he believes that space tourism will soon be common place in society and he spoke of how he expected many to be enjoying such trip s within the next 15 years.
