P&O and Cunard Line claim record early bookings

UK cruise companies are claiming that bookings are up considerably for 2010/11 departures. One company described the bookings as being, “well ahead of those a year ago.”

Two companies, P&O and Cunard Line have said that as of the 1st July bookings for cruises around the world in 2011 were up by 47 per cent which accounts for almost 700 more people than the same time last year for 2010 cruises.

“Our 2010/11 brochure was launched on June 22, and ever since we have been enjoying exceptionally good booking trends. Nearly all of our cruises depart from the UK, so they are convenient and there is no additional cost for air transportation, plus all on board prices are in sterling making it very easy to budget for spending money before you leave home,” said Nigel Lingard, marketing director.

Both companies say that cruising has almost become immune to the worldwide recession, as it is normally a once in a lifetime opportunity. However many people booking cruises have done so before and say that there is nothing that comes close to sailing the ocean.

A typical P&O cruise round the world will stop in 46 countries and 89 ports which is probably why they are still in such demand.
