Global cruise line operator P&O has released an exciting schedule to commemorate its 180th birthday in two years’ time. The World Cruise Collection for 2017 has two round the world odysseys plus a 50-night cruise of the Caribbean and the Amazon.
P&O says the cruises will be on sale to the general public from 9 September 2015 onwards. Members of P&O’s loyalty programme, the Peninsular Club, get a head-start as they can book their cruises the day before.
The MV Aurora will sail a route corresponding to early ones followed by the British Empire’s trading ships. The vessel will sail from Southampton docks on 9 January 2017 and on its 104-night global odyssey will stop at 35 ports in 21 different nations.
On its eastward circumnavigation of the globe, the Aurora will call at ports in locations such as Dubai and Singapore. En route, it will sail into two of the most famous harbours in the world, Sydney and Auckland, as well as go through the Suez and the Panama canals.
The Aurora will cover 30,000 miles on its journey. In comparison, her sister ship the Arcadia will travel 36,000 miles on a 114-night voyage in a westward arc around the world. The Arcadia will sail from Southampton the week before the Aurora and will also cover all the world’s key maritime locations.
Christopher Edgington is P&O’s marketing executive and commenting on the 180th anniversary cruises he said that a lot of research had gone into planning them. He continued by saying they were reasonably priced holidays for people looking for something different and with sufficient time on their hands.
