Porter Airlines has followed the example of the two largest Canadian carriers-Air Canada and WestJet-in revisiting its fuel surcharge policy. While WestJet has decided to scrap the surcharge altogether and leave basic airfares untouched, Porter Airlines is now incorporating this extra fee into initially advertised price of all tickets. As such, clients will get a more precise picture of how much they can expect to pay earlier in the online booking process, rather than being shocked when the final total is calculated to include the fuel surcharge. Airlines in the UK and through much of Europe are already required to list final prices at the start of the online booking process, so as not to mislead clients.
The other major news item concerning Canada’s only full-service regional carrier is that it plans to launch a new route from the Toronto City Centre Airport (TCCA) to Chicago-Midway. Porter has indicated in the past that it intends to expand its network of US destinations, after opening the hugely successful Toronto to Newark-Liberty route at the beginning of the year. Established in 2006, Porter Airlines concentrates on offering seven to 10 return flights per day from Toronto to Ottawa and Montreal, as well as less frequent departures from the TCCA to Halifax, Quebec City and the Mont Tremblant ski resort.
Thank you to AirDB for the initial report.
