A recent survey into the cost of hotels for British travellers has seen a worrying rise attributed to the fall in the value of the pound. It is now a case of whether to pay for holiday hotels now or try and wait it out and hope for a better exchange rate in the future.
The survey looked at hotel rates in the US and noted that while American citizens paid up to 30 per cent less on rooms in 2009 compared to the previous year, Brits only saw a drop of around eight per cent. These figures only account for hotel bookings that are made directly and not via a package holiday, but the latter could well prove to be a financially better option.
For Britons that are holidaying domestically this year there is some encouragement in the pricing of hotels. Like most worldwide countries, prices have dropped on average 13 per cent compared to the same time last year. This will have a positive affect on UK tourism as the number of tourists will visit the country from abroad because of the current exchange rates.
