India’s ever-popular train, the Palace on Wheels, is fully-booked into 2010, and the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation has teamed up with the country’s Ministry of Railways to offer a new super-luxury train service to visitors. The train will be called the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels, and the service will be inaugurated in December.
The new luxury train will feature carriages built in India, along with state-of-the-art facilities such as Internet access and a spa of international standards.
The Royal Rajasthan on Wheels will comprise two super-deluxe suites, 13 deluxe saloons and two bar and eatery combinations known as ‘restrobars.’ Designed to be the ‘world’s most luxurious train,’ it will run on a route that incorporates the major attractions of interest in the state, and also Agra, so that its passengers will be able to visit the Taj Mahal.
Every Sunday at 18.00, the train will depart New Delhi’s Safdarjung station, and return to Delhi on the morning of the following Sunday.
The super-deluxe suite tariff will be US$2000 per person for each night of the journey, and deluxe saloon occupancy will cost US$800 per person per night. Included in the fare is an extensive sightseeing programme.
Service will actually begin during the first week of January, and will operate a seven-night itinerary until season ends the first week of May.
