Record number of passengers planned for one plane

As the aviation keeps growing we find our planes getting larger so that more people can be crammed on to them to maximise revenue and hopefully make it cheaper for us all to fly. The introduction in 2007 of the new Airbus A380, which is the double decker aircraft, made new waves in the industry because of the amount of passengers it could hold for long-haul flights. Latest plans for the A380 is to make some of them completely economy-class with no room for the high-end premium seats. This could potentially mean that if you fly on one of these new planes you may well have to share it with another 799 passengers. This would break all previous records and move us into a new era of flying.

Air Austral is the carrier that is set the wheels in motion for this after placing an order with Airbus for two of the double decker planes with an astonishing 840 seats available. They will fly between Paris and Reunion, a French island in the Indian Ocean, and aim to be up and running by 2014. There are currently around 20 of the mega-planes flying in our skies today and more than 200 on order for the coming few years, but most airlines have decided to stick with tried and tested seating class system. A spokesperson from Air Austral said they plan to be the budget airline of long-haul flights and offer passengers great deals on their no-frills flights. Other carriers are sure to be keeping a close eye on how well it goes and maybe introduce similar routes themselves.
