Regional carrier to offer new route between Manchester and London
Posted on: September 21st, 2007 by Martin FellowesUK-based regional carrier, Eastern Airways, is set to offer a new regular route between Manchester and London Stansted. The route will become operational starting at the end of October and will step in the place of Air Berlin, Germany’s largest discount airline, which has offered a small number of domestic flights in the UK over the past few years. Eastern Airways aims to attract businesspeople by having an early morning flight to Stansted. According to current plans, the airline will offer three flights every day during the work week, with a total of 15 flights, Monday to Friday.
Eastern Airways already connected Manchester and Stansted in the past, but ended up suspending its operations on this route following the entry of Air Berlin. Yet with the exit of the German carrier, Eastern may be able to reassert its position in the regional, domestic market. Eastern’s onboard services include complimentary drinks and snacks for all passengers.
Eastern has a base at the Manchester International Airport, but most of its flights are actually operated out of Aberdeen and Newcastle International Airport. The carrier has 29 planes and flies to 18 destinations, most of which are within the UK. A small handful of routes are also offered to northern European countries, such as Belgium Brussels) and Norway (Stavanger), as well as Crown Dependencies, such as the Isle of Man. Eastern operates two types of turboprop airplanes, namely the Saab 2000 and the Jetstream 41. All flights can be booked online, through Eastern’s website.
